Owner & Guide
Shanti
Shanti Hodges is the founder of Land Beyond Zion. She has been involved in the outdoors industry for 28 years, first as a journalist, then running a non-profit called Hike it Baby that was dedicated to getting families with young children out hiking, and now as the owner of Land Beyond Zion Tours and Land Beyond Zion Boutique Glamp Camp.
Shanti is a passionate advocate for getting as many people as she can into the outdoors hiking. Part of her drive to make the outdoors's accessible for all came from the fact that she saw from a young age how many people in the United States didn't have access to the outdoors. When she started Hike it Baby and then later moved to the Zion area, she had a strong emphasis on marketing toward women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, families and those with mobility disabilities.
In 2022 she began guiding on Angel's Landing and found another founded Land Beyond Zion (originally called Wild Utah Tours) in 2018 when she began running women's retreats in the Zion area. During covid the company shifted away from groups, to private guiding and has focused on that primarily over the last 3 years.
When not guiding Shanti spends time hiking and hanging with 11 year old Mason and their dog Sunny.
Camp Manager & Operations Assistant
Pearl
We like to refer to Pearl as our secret cleaning fairy. She began working for Land Beyond Zion in 2022. She wears many hats. Mama of two who grew up in Cane Beds, just down the road from our glamp camp. The smiley easy-going presence, Pearl is probably one of the reasons people praise our clean camp often.
Not hanging out at camp, she can be found hunting, hiking, and shuttling our kiddos around to school and events. Pearl occasionally guides for us on the side and is learning how to work on overall camp operations.
If you like our sparkly queen camp, please feel free to drop her a Venmo tip @Pearl-Black-8.

Guru Stu
Since 1999, I have guided and taught across diverse fields—guiding, yoga, physics, and humor—working with spas, universities, wilderness therapy programs, and even NASA. I believe in the transformative power of gratitude, balanced with a dash of sass to keep things grounded. My philosophy centers on recognizing the extraordinary in others and giving thanks backed by evidence. This approach not only fosters loyalty but nurtures love—what some might call "manipulation," but in the best, most human way possible. Through my work, I aim to help people discover fulfillment in a world that is constantly evolving due to climate change, AI, and the challenges of our times.

McKayla
Hi, I’m McKayla-
I was born and raised by cowboys just outside of Zion Canyon and have spent endless days exploring the mountains and canyons on horseback, motorcycle, or on foot. I split my time between Hawaii and the Southwest, enjoying a perfect balance of desert and tropical. I live at the mouth of the Canyon, and am passionate about offgrid living, sustainable agriculture and establishing food sovereignty for my community. I love getting folks outdoors and showing them the magic and beauty of Zion Canyon and surrounding areas while educating them about the history, the geology and especially the native and edible flora and fauna in the area. I’m looking forward to hiking with y’all and sharing my backyard with you!

Lydia
A midwestern traveling chef and a tour guide here in the United States! I’ve developed a deep understanding of the importance of having a good relationship with the food you eat and bringing movement into your life.
As a professional chef, I take pride in creating dishes that both benefit our bodies and the way we think about food. I enjoy working in an ever-changing environment, as it allows me to travel, cook for others, and help them get outside for adventures. Currently, I work as a guide/retreat chef at Land Beyond Zion, where I am focused on taking people out to wonderful hikes and helping people with their meals.

Photographer & Guide
Michelle
Michelle is an adventurer, queer single mama, visual storyteller and so much more.
She lives in a converted short skoolie with her son and our 70lb fur baby. They have spent six years traveling full-time around the contiguous 48 U.S. states - exploring, roamschooling and photographing and have recently begun to resettle down back in Indianapolis.
She's a sucker for natural light, deep shadows and creating real, authentic moments. She likes to photograph outside the box and tell rich stories through her work. She's spent years combining a lifestyle/photojournalistic approach with an artistic vision to create beautiful, organic imagery that is honest and raw.
One of her favorite things about having a nomadic lifestyle is the people that she meets along the way. When not in Indy, she can be found roaming through the desert and hanging out with friends between Moab and Zion.
